HAPPY endings do come true ...and no one knows this better than an abandoned kitty.

The heavily pregnant young tortoiseshell was found just two weeks ago at a house in Windsor.

She had been left hungry and cold, despite only being only around 11 months old.

Cats Protection branch co-ordinator, Peter Simmonds said it was possible the youngster's litter may not have survived if they had been left to brave the cold conditions.

However, a nearby resident spotted the lonely tabby who has been named 'Tinkerbell' and reported it to the charity - which cares for abandoned kittens and cats in Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead.

"She was very cold and her hair was very matted, but she didn't have any serious injuries luckily. She won't be re-homed now until she has reared her kittens - but the lady who initially called me about her has said she will give her a home. Cats Protection will require homes for her kittens in around three months."

This is the second this month that Mr Simmonds has been confronted with a young pregnant cat within his area.

Commenting on the early kitten season he added: "This incident emphasises the need for early neutering for both males and females. We are seeing cats as young as five months old falling pregnant while their owners think they are still kittens. It is vital to get your cat neutered as early as possible."
