Mum and daughter's mountainous task

A MOTHER and daughter duo will be scaling new heights when they climb the world's highest mountain in aid of charity.

Bev and Stephanie Hakesley are preparing to fasten their harness and trek up Mount Kilimanjaro next month to raise funds for the Alexander Devine Children's Cancer Trust (ADCCT).

The adventurers climbed Mount Snowdon just after Christmas, but at 5,895m they are expecting Kilimanjaro to be a much tougher challenge.

Stephanie said: "I wanted to support a local charity and ADCCT are doing wonderful work fundraising to build the first children's hospice in Berkshire. Doing the climb with my mum will be amazing - I just hope she doesn't beat me to the summit!"

The pair from Taplow are hoping to raise £3,000 for the charity.

Fiona Devine, founder of ADCCT, said: "We are delighted that Bev and Steph have chosen to support us and we will be willing them on to complete their challenge. Our aim is to fund, build and run Alexander Devine Children's Hospice in Berkshire in memory of our courageous son Alexander, who died of a brain tumour at the age of eight. It will provide much needed respite care, support for families, an outreach team and specialised palliative care. We rely on the support of the local community, and Bev and Steph are a real inspiration."
