A SIKH former doctor, who was spurred to enter politics by the MP expenses scandal, is running for the parliamentary seat in Windsor.

Labour have selected Dr Amanjit Singh Jhund to contest the town's seat, currently held by Conservative Adam Afriyie, for the general elections later this year.

The newcomer from Glasgow, Dr Jhund, is a former hospital doctor and award-winning entrepreneur who said that he felt privileged to be selected as his party's prospective parliamentary candidate.

The 28-year-old said: "I'm relatively new to politics, I initially decided to get involved because of the MP expenses drama. Given the behaviour of MPs across all parties, I want to be the kind of person who represents the people and not just try to line my pockets."

London-based Mr Jhund pledges to move to Windsor if elected and vows he will not claim a second home allowance or travel expenses. He does not fear that his age will be a disadvantage in the elections. He said: "I've got a lot of experience, I worked in the NHS and have my own business. I've always lived and worked abroad and I think I have a lot to offer."

In the run-up to the election, Dr Jhund will be meeting local residents across the Windsor area and is encouraging locals to get in touch via his website at: www.amanjitjhund.co.uk
