A FURTHER 61 job cuts have been made at Nortel.

The communication company told employees yesterday (Monday) that jobs had to be cut because of economic reasons.

A spokesman said: 'This is a result of a significant decline in revenues for Nortel Networks UK. A process has been put in place for Nortel managers to advise approximately 150 employees that they are at risk of redundancy with the redundancies likely to take place shortly thereafter.'

The company which has its UK headquarters in Westacott Way, Maidenhead went into administration on 14 January 2009.

Hundreds of people have already been axed without pay or warning.

'It is unfortunate that we have had to make further headcount reductions but they have been necessary to reduce costs in the ongoing business and are essential to the ongoing survival of Nortel Networks UK,' added the Ernst & Young spokesman.

Further cuts are also expected to be made in the coming weeks.
