ONE of the country"s leading rowing clubs is hoping to step-up its game with a new state-of-the-art boat house.

The Windsor Boys" School Boat Club is forging ahead with plans for a £1m new building at its current site in Stovell Road.

The club"s current building has reached its full capacity of 75 members and has no room for expansion, resulting in a number of rowing outside the school.

Director of rowing at Windsor Boys" School, Mark Wilikinson, said: 'We have a shed at the moment, but it is not big enough for our needs. The new facility will enable more participation of youths in the sport, which has grown over the years. We have some really talented boys here and we are at a stage now that we are only held back by our facility.'

The proposal features plans for a new boat house to include an eight man sculling tank, male and female changing rooms, which will allow the school to open the club to local middle schools, more storage space and new equipment.

The club is now seeking individual and corporate sponsors to help fund the proposal, as well as support with marketing, legal aspects, building specifications and financing.

A planning application to the Royal Borough is expected in August.
