Councillors and police want Wraysbury residents to help end a ‘campaign of terror' against the community.

Following a string of late-night catapult attacks on properties and businesses in the village in January, a further act of vandalism last week left four shop windows smashed on The Green.

As a result, the attacks - between March 11 and 12 - were top of the agenda at Tuesday evening's Neighbourhood Action Group annual meeting at Wraysbury Village Hall - a meeting attended by ward councillor for Horton and Wraysbury, Cllr Colin Rayner.

He said: "The police are absolutely desperate to arrest somebody but we need residents to come forward and give us a name or car registration number.

"We're so close to catching them and we're asking Wraysbury residents to be brave enough to contact the police in the strictest confidence.

"It's so important that people come forward before someone gets seriously hurt or even killed. It's criminal damage at the moment, but if they hurt someone it could become much more serious."

Earlier this year shops, houses and car windows were smashed with steel ball bearings in a spate of attacks in the village.

Inspector Pete Dalton of Thames Valley Police said: "We are desperately keen to get information on these offences.

"The perpetrators are travelling round in a vehicle with catapults causing damage. We have put in place extra task patrols as a deterrent, but they are unlikely to attack a police car, so we are extremely reliant on community help to help us catch these people."

Cllr Rayner added: "We're doing everything we can for the young people but one or two of them want to smash everything - we won't let it happen."

Anyone with information can call police on 08458 505505.
