Bee Gee Robin Gibb has been forced to pull out of switching on the Eton Christmas lights at the last minute for personal reasons.

The former singing sensation was due to launch the Eton Art Gallery's Bomber Command Campaign as part of the Friday night festivities.

Before jetting off to his second home in Los Angeles, Mr Gibb explained: "Unfortunatley I will not be able to attend the switching on of the Eton lights. This is due to unforseen events which are unavoidable.

"As everyone involved with the Bomber Command Campaign is aware I am totally committed to the fundraising and further awareness of what is overdue recognition of the sacrifices made by so many so young during WWII. I am committed to continuing those efforts until we achieve that goal of a permanent memorial fit for the heroes that they were."

Pop legend Jim Dooley from the 70s band 'The Dooleys' will be standing in as a late replacement for Mr Gibb.

As the photographer behind the fundraising Bomber Command prints on sale at the Eton Art Gallery, Mr Dooley has agreed to waive all appearence fees and will deliver a short speech on what the Bomber Command Campaign is all about before turning on Eton's festive illuminations.

The Eton Christmas lights will be switched on at 6pm on Friday evening and will include the thoughts of Mayor Dorothy Kemp, a parade by pupils from Eton Porney School and a surprise visit from Santa.
