THE body of a man in his 30s was recovered from the River Thames last night (Sunday).

Police were called to Hurley Riverside Park at 7.09pm after a report a man had disappeared under the water.

He was in a large family group and firefighters from Maidenhead supported the search with the Water Rescue Unit for around 40 minutes.

The body was recovered by Thames Valley Police divers at around 10.45pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokeswoman for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Members of the public are urged not to enter rivers and lakes, no matter how tempting they might seem.

"Even strong swimmers can be affected by cold water and currents, whilst underwater hazards, invisible from the surface, can trap people under water."
