Huge lift for school

Newlands Girls' School, in Farm Road, has unveiled its shiny new FlexStep wheelchair lift, courtesy of a donation from children's charity, Variety, meaning disabled students can now get on the school stage to present and perform in front of pupils, staff and parents.
The lift, valued at £14,800, presented to the school last month will expand the learning experience of its pupils, aged 11-18, produce a more inclusive atmosphere.
Headteacher Louise Ceska said: "We are truly thankful for this donation from Variety and the parents of the school.
"This state of the art lift means a great deal to the children of the school who can all perform with ease on stage now.
"We are working hard to improve the accessibility of our premises and with this latest donation we are well on our way to ensuring that all our pupils have access to all areas for the daily activities we have on offer."
Pamela Sinclair, chairwoman of the Variety Grants Programme said: "To be able to see first hand the benefits of Variety's sponsored FlexStep was truly moving."
