MAIDENHEAD Heritage Centre has just been officially 'Accredited' by the national Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA).

MLA's Museum Accreditation Scheme sets national standards for all museums in the UK. Maidenhead Heritage Centre's award proves that it measures up, meeting the guidelines on how it is run, how it looks after its ever-growing collection and the services it provides to its visitors.

Chairman of MLA Andrew Motion said: "Being awarded Accreditation is an impressive achievement. It recognizes the high standard of service that Maidenhead Heritage Centre provides and acknowledges the hard work of the staff."

Accreditation will give the centre in Park Street, Maidenhead enhanced status in its dealings with other museums as well as help the group to continue fundraising in a bid to complete the final stages of development to the facility.

This will include a new lobby, our Air Transport Auxiliary Study Centre and Gallery, and a permanent display introducing the history of Maidenhead to visitors from outside the town.

Chairman of the Centre, Richard Poad added:"We are delighted to have met MLA's exacting standards for how a museum should be run. Maidenhead Heritage Centre and Museum was founded in 1993 and finally acquired permanent premises in Park Street at Christmas 2006.

"The award of full Accreditation is an early Christmas present for 2009 and is a major milestone in our development. I would like to thank everyone involved in the process, especially our Curator Brian Boulter, who presides over a collection of thousands of historic objects, documents and photographs."
