DOG owners are being urged to 'bag it and bin it' at Braywick in a bid to clear up the park and sports pitches.

The Royal Borough is calling time out on dog poo after Maidenhead Rugby Club reported its young members were having to pick up more then 30 'bundles' every Sunday morning before they were able to play.

The borough's dog wardens will be on site regularly at various times of the day for two weeks commencing Sunday (1/03) to educate dog owners about keeping their dogs on leads around the sports area. The wardens will also be enforcing the Dog Fouling of Land Act to ensure owners do pick up after their dogs and will talk to owners and distribute leaflets showing the extent of the dog-on-lead area and advising that owners who fail to comply will be prosecuted.

In addition, the locations of dog bins have been reviewed and increased, and new signs erected advising of the regulations.

Cllr Simon Dudley, lead member for adult and community services, said: "While many responsible owners do keep their dogs on leads, away from the pitches, and do 'bag it and bin it', it is disheartening to think that some could be this inconsiderate.

"The council is determined to stamp out such antisocial and unhygienic behaviour. Hopefully these measures - and the thought of these youngsters having to clear up the mess - will be a spur to the owners to pick up after their pets."
