AN OFFICIAL opening event was held to mark the arrival of H&M in Maidenhead.

Maidenhead MP Theresa May was among the guests at the launch, which also celebrated the news that more national retailers are set to come to the Nicholsons Shopping Centre.

Jane Wright, Nicholsons centre manager said: “The opening of H&M and its trading success demonstrates the confidence retailers have in the centre and to its revitalisation.”

The next national retailer to be announced is Smiggle, the child’s stationery store, which will take a 1,200 sq ft unit on High Street Mall on a 10 year lease and is set to open at the end of July.

Daniel Carter, chief executive of Vixcroft, the company which owns the centre, said: “This is a massive vote of confidence for the Nicholsons centre and Maidenhead. In the two weeks since H&M has opened we have seen footfall increase by 5% and we are keen to continue to attract retailers to the centre. We are in advanced negotiation with a number of well known brands and hope to confirm their presence very soon.”
