Young carers from the Royal Borough have starred in a film, launched last week at Maidenhead Town Hall by the mayor Cllr Paul Lion.

It was made by the Community Advance Project charity in partnership with the charities Family Action and Barnardo’s. It includes interviews with young people sharing their experiences of being a carer and the challenges they experience. Experts from Barnado’s and Family Action also talk about the issues affecting this group of young people and give advice to help young carers, their families and the professionals who they may come into contact with.

The film is available on YouTube and DVD as well as to schools.

Suj Ahmed, director of the Community Advance Project said: “Young Carers can often feel neglected and isolated at a crucial period in their lives, which can have a detrimental effect on their mental wellbeing and self-esteem. It is particularly important schools and health care professionals are aware of the needs of young carers.”
