A film showing the work of Adrian and Veronica Stabbins battling polio in India kept Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead's Soroptimists riveted at their September meeting.

The Soroptimists are professional woman who fund raise for good causes and welcome guests to their monthly meetings.

This month it was former Windsor dentist Adrian Stabbins and his wife from Windsor and Eton Rotary Club, who spoke about the project run by Rotary International to eliminate polio from the world.

They showed a film taken of their work in Old Delhi, India in which they were seen wearing yellow shirts putting drops of the polio vaccine onto the tongues of small children, before marking the little finger with a dye (purple pinkies) to show that the child had been immunised. Each child was then given a small toy.

The pair were welcome to the meeting at Fredrick's Hotel in Maidenhead by the Soroptimists' chairman Pat Oldcorn.

During August the Soroptimists have also enjoyed a walk at Savill Gardens n Windsor Great Park. They will be holding an autumn quiz on Saturday, October 6 at St Luke's Church Hall in Maidenhead and teams and individuals are invited to take part.
