Bray Village is the place to be go for garden lovers on July 1.

The 'Gardens in Words and Music' concert at St Michael's Church features a star line-up featuring actor and comedian Tim Brooke-Taylor OBE, Michel Roux of the Waterside Inn, Bray, soloist Ben Alden who sang at the royal wedding, Sarah Greene of Blue Peter and Saturday Superstore fame, along with Alastair Penman the British saxophonist, clarinettist, composer and educator.

The varied programme of songs and readings embraces the theme of gardens and includes choirs from Thames Hospice and St Michael’s Church, Bray.

It all starts at 8pm and will raise vital funds for Windsor's Thames Hospice and the Friends of St Michael’s.

The Patron of the event is the High Sherriff of Berkshire Graham Barker.

It is the second of two 'garden' events that day.

Between 2pm and 5pm, horticultural enthusiasts will be able to explore around ten private gardens not normally open to the public, including at least one with a riverside setting.

In addition to the gardens, St Michael’s Church, the Church Tower, Jesus Hospital quadrangle and the Lich Gate Garden will also be open.

Tickets, £10 per person, can be obtained by contacting Julie Graham on 01628 778054 or by email to brayopengardens@gmail.co

The High Sherriff said: “I am delighted to be patron of ‘Open Gardens in Bray’.

"My themes as High Sheriff of Berkshire this year are community, compassion and culture. The Open Gardens combined with the concert  combine all three of these themes.

"I am hugely grateful to the following: those who will be opening their gardens; those who are performing in the concert and, not least, all the volunteers who have helped organise this community event - especially Chris and Julie Graham.”
