How do you make a convincing looking marrow?

That was the problem facing Old Windsor’s Riverside Players as they rehearsed the comedy A Fete Worse Than Death - a murder mystery set at a village fete.

The real thing would have wilted under the lights.

Riverside secretary Vicki Arnold said: “Someone suggested plastic bottles. We thought about bits of sponge. In the end we have settled on good old papier mache.”

The marrow has to play a vital role in the show. It is monstrous. But could marrow envy even be motive for murder?

In this play it is down to a famous actor who plays a TV detective and has been invited to open the fete to solve the horticultural mystery.

The show is on at the Memorial Hall, Straight Road from Thursday to Saturday, June 28 to 30 at 8pm.

Ticket prices are £10 for adults, £8 concessions. Book online at www.riversideplayers.com/boxoffice.shtml or call 07717 671765.
