A woman whose body was recovered from the Thames yesterday afternoon at 5pm is believed to be the missing Windsor teacher Ruth Smith.

Mrs Smith, 55, a mother of two who taught at St Edward's Ecunemical School in Parsonage Lane, Windsor had been missing since April 25.

By the following day police had issued an appeal for help from the public and search and rescue teams had scoured the Thames at Marlow where she was last seen.

The searches have continued since.

At around 5pm yesterday the force received a call from a member of the Bucks Search and Rescue team after they discovered a body of a woman in the river at Bisham Road.

This afternoon police announced they had informed Mrs Smith's family.

Formal identification has not yet taken place and a file is being prepared for the Coroner.

Mrs Smith lived in Windsor and was a worshipper at Windsor Methodist Church in Alma Road.
