A fork lift truck left perilously close to the edge of the river by Maidenhead Bridge on Sunday caused a major alert.

Firefighters, an ambulance and a boat crew were called to the scene about 9.30pm amid fears that someone may have fallen in.

But after a two hour search it was decided that the emergency services were not needed.

It is believed that the truck had been taken by intruders from a Berkeley Homes building site and been abandoned after it was nearly driven into the river.
