SCOUTS from across Berkshire are banding together to travel to the World Jamboree in 2019.

The 24th World Jamboree, in West Virginia, USA, will attract tens of thousands of Scouts from across the world for 12 days of adventure.

Jamboree leader, Loz Marchant, 27, of Maidenhead, said: “This is the first Jamboree to be hosted by multiple nations, as Mexico and Canada are supporting it. Over 60,000 scouts will attend, representing more nations than participate in the Olympic games and 250 scouts from across Berkshire have been selected to go.”

The lucky Berkshire scouts who have been invited to attend will be working hard over the next year to raise money to fund their adventure. Kiera Dixon, 14, of Furze Plat, Maidenhead, said: “I’m going to be doing things like a sponsored silence, and a sponsored no social media.”

Nick Conacher, 15, of Oaken Grove, Maidenhead, said: “I cant wait, we’ve already been doing some fundraising in our individual scout groups, like sponsored runs.”

The selected scouts will be joining forces and working together to make the trip a success.

Jasmine Stackdale, 13, of Furze Plat, said: “I’m really excited to be selected, and am most excited for activities like water rafting and archery. I’m looking forward to taking part and making friends for life.”

Justine Dixon, 16, of Furze Plat, said: “I’m really looking forward to meeting people from other cultures and seeing how they do scouting, and then bringing those ideas back to my scout group to improve it.”

Mr Marchant said: “We’ve got a lot to do over the next year, like leadership skills and learning to cook for ourselves. We’re going to be developing as scouts and as a unit. It’s good to see that everyone is already getting along.”
