A COUNCILLOR whose campaign against youngsters riding motorbikes on his village recreation ground led to a conviction for assault, has called for a change in the law.
Datchet parish councillor Ewan Larcombe was conditionally discharged by magistrates after his attempt to photograph one of the riders led to a 14-year-old falling off his bike.
He has pledged to continue his campaign and said the law needed to be changed to take into account the growing problem of young people riding ‘off road’ bikes on greens.
He said: “They don’t have number plates, they are not registered. It is the parents who have to accept responsibility, they should be held responsible.”
He felt his colleagues on the council could have supported him more after he was charged. But this week Cllr Joanne Stickland, parish chairwoman, said the authority had been working with police and Radian Housing to address the problem and two bikes had been confiscated and crushed.
