A badly parked vehicle prevented firefighters reaching a blaze at a home in Clewer Avenue, Windsor where a 90-year-old blind woman lived early this morning.

Firefighters from Slough and Windsor could not get through the gap between two cars parked opposite each other - being forced to reverse and take another route, losing vital minutes.

Crew manager Mike Pritchard said: "In the end it did not make too much difference but it could have been disastrous.

"People should always think before they park."

The call came at 1am and fortunately the lady in the house was alerted by neighbours and got out safely. But serious damage is believed to have been caused to the front living room.

The cause is not suspicious and the occupant is understood to be safe with close relatives who live nearby.
