THE trust that runs Wexham Park Hospital has failed to hit its accident and emergency waiting time target for patients to be seen within four hours.

But Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust says it is still performing above average - with 90.7 per cent of patients being seen within four hours. The trust had set itself a target of 95 per cent.

Wexham Park, near Slough, and neighbouring Heatherwood Hospital, in Ascot, both come under the trust but only Wexham has an A&E department. It still eclipses the A&E average in England which is 89.7 per cent.

The figures come in the new BBC performance tracker which is accessible online at bbc.co.uk/news/health-41483322 It also shows that Frimley is surpassing its NHS cancer care target of 85 per cent - with 92.8 per cent of patients being seen within 62 days. The planned operations and care target of 92 per cent is also being met.

A spokesman for the trust said: "In particularly we are proud of our cancer performance, especially as this has turned around remarkably at Wexham Park in the past three years.

"Our four-hour waiting performance in A&E is better than average at over 90 per cent and we continue to aim for 95 per cent and above. This winter we have GPs in our emergency department at Wexham to help manage those patients who do not require emergency care and an ambulatory care unit that focuses on treating and stabilising patients quickly so they do not need to stay overnight."
