A TALENTED footballer who was murdered in July will continue to be honoured by his Sunday league club after it established a trophy match in his memory.

The first ever Ismail Mohammed Memorial Cup game took place on Sunday at The Gore in Burnham.

Mr Mohammed, known as Izzy, died in hospital of stab wounds on July 31 after being attacked during his 24th birthday celebrations on July 10.

His club, Slough-based Real Milan, organised the fundraising game in his memory as the current first team took on a squad of ex-stars and Mr Mohammed’s friends.

The ‘Izzy Milan Legends’ ran out 4-2 winners on penalties after the game finished 3-3 after extra time.

Team captain George Torpey, who is also a current Real-Milan player, lifted the inaugural trophy for the Legends side. It was a fitting end to a touching day as Mr Torpey was also the mastermind in organising the event which attracted a number of families and supporters who came to watch.

The Legends’ scorers within 90 minutes were Joe Blount, Charlie Samuel and Adam Kirby, with Kirby actually levelling the game with the last kick. Richard Cannon and Kevin Denis (brace) were on the score sheet for Real-Milan.

Mr Mohammed had previously had a trial with Premiership side Watford.

Mr Mohammed, of Weekes Drive, Cippenham, was attacked following a dispute between two groups in Salt Hill Park in the early hours of July 10.

A man and a woman, who were arrested in connection with the incident, have already been released under investigation. Police are still investigating.
