Visitors to All Saints Church in Frances Road can learn about its beautiful altarpiece designed by the great Victorian author Thomas Hardy every Saturday this month.

The altarpiece was uncovered by parishioner Stuart Tunstall this year after being hidden behind wooden panelling for almost a century.

The church will open specially between 9.30am and 1pm on Saturday, September 16, 23 and 30 - with someone on hand to explain the significance and symbolism of Hardy's beautiful creation. Refreshments will be available.

The altarpiece is being rededicated by Bishop Andrew Proud on November 26.
