AN ARMY mum who formed a charity to support and cheer children whose parents are away fighting, is looking for ‘little troopers’ who would like to become calendar stars.

Louise Fetigan, 34, joined the army at 17 and is now living in Windsor married to a member of the Household Cavalry.

She is the founder of the charity Little Troopers – which befriends and supports children of servicemen who are away from home serving abroad.

A big fund raiser for her charity is the annual calendar which features service men and women’s children – and the hunt is currently on to find 13 little models who would like to pose.

Mrs Fetigan retired from the army when her daughter Madison was 10 and explains why she started the charity.

She said: “It came from personal experience of my daughter. My husband was away a lot – he served in Iraq and Afghanistan – and she was really affected by this.

“There was no support available at that time.

“Children need help coming to terms with an absent parent so they can understand and feel in control of the separation, so it does not disrupt their everyday life.”

Little Troopers started as a support charity for the families of serving soldiers but Mrs Fetigan expanded it to include service families from the navy and air force.

The charity has its headquarters in nearby Egham High Street.

Mrs Fetigan said: “We provide a lot of tangible resources. We have set up a world map so children can study where in the world their missing parent is and an activity street so they can study time differences and other elements that can bring them a little bit closer.”

“We also set up a story app so an absent parent can read a story to their child and we do a monthly medal for ‘little troopers’ who have done something special.”

Every penny raised from the Little Troopers calendar goes back into the charity.

Anyone who enters an image for the calendar will be eligible for a prize. Photos can be emailed to or posted to Little Troopers, 4b 80 High Street, Egham TW20 9HE. Entries should be marked calendar competition. The closing date is September 23, terms and conditions on
