The new charity Men's Matters has organised two big events happening over the next few weeks.

They both involve the new weekly 'drop-in' sessions for older men that will open in Langley and Maidenhead from the first week of September. A weekly drop-in session in Windsor for older men has been running since the beginning of this year.

The first forthcoming event will take place on Saturday, September 9 at the Longwood Park Resource Centre in Byron House, Common Road, Langley from 2pm to 5pm.

It will be attended by Slough MP Tan Dhesi and Mayor of Slough Ishrat Shah, as well as an anticipated 100 or more local residents and their families - plus major stakeholders in the community including Solutions for Health, WEA, the Fire & Police services and Arbour Park Community Sports Stadium. It will launch new weekly Tuesday drop in sessions there from 2pm to 4pm.

The second event will be a 'community dialogue' being held in the Desborough Suite, Maidenhead Town Hall on Thursday, October 19 from 12 noon to 2pm. The topic will be 'How to Reach the Invisible Men'.

This will launch new weekly drop-in sessions at Maidenhead Community Centre in York Road happening Wednesdays from 2pm to 4pm.

Research by Independent Age found that a growing generation of older men is facing a future of increased isolation.

Men's Matters is a new registered charity in East Berkshire that aims to address this. Sir Michael Parkinson has agreed to be its patron. The community dialogue will also be attended by the Royal Borough's deputy mayor Cllr Eileen Quick.
