A PROPOSAL has been put forward to transfer a Slough ward to the Windsor constituency as part of a boundary review.

The Boundary Commission for England has proposed that Chalvey is moved to Windsor as part of its review, which is aimed at ensuring parliamentary constituencies are equally represented by the number of residents.

More than 5,000 people live in Chalvey, and the move will mean that residents will be voting for a Windsor MP, which is currently Adam Afriyie, as opposed to a Slough one, which is currently Fiona Mactaggart.

The report states: "To increase the number of electors in the Windsor constituency, we propose transferring the Chalvey ward to it from the Slough constituency.

"We did consider whether other wards in Slough Borough could be included in the Windsor constituency in order to ensure it met the electoral quota. However, we identified that including other wards would result in the Slough constituency being detached or require the inclusion of multiple wards.

"We considered whether a ward from Buckinghamshire county could be included in the Windsor constituency but were of the view that crossing the county boundary was not necessary."

A public consultation has been launched on the porposed changes, which are due to come into effect in September 2018.

The consultation runs from today (September 13) until December 5. Visit www.bce2018.org.uk
