BEAVER scouts learnt how a range of foods end up in our supermarkets with a visit to Tesco on Monday.

Members of the 1st Lent Rise and Dorney Beaver Colony took part in the Farm to Fork Trail at the Dedworth store.

The evening included the children aged six to eight touching a fish, seeing how cold the store's freezer is and trying different fruits, breads and cheeses.

Dan Brench, beaver scout leader, said: "It seemed like a really good thing to do. You never know the background that some of these kids have got, some of them may have literally no idea what some of the foods are.

"They all loved seeing the fish and getting to hold it. It was then gutted in front of them which most of them loved, apart from a few who were squeamish.

"They all took to the new foods and got to go through the back of the store, which was quite exciting for them."

The Beavers also earned a badge for taking part in the trail.

The group is currently looking for more regular uniformed volunteers to join the group as leaders.
