THREE men have been arrested following two reports of attempted serious sexual assaults in Runnymede on Friday. (15/01)

Two men have been arrested in connection with the first incident which occurred at around 3.30am in the St Judes area of Englefield Green and involved a woman in her 30s and one man has been arrested in connection with the second incident which occurred at around 6.30am and involved a woman in her 30s.

All three men remain in police custody at this time.

Senior investigating officer detective chief inspector Paul Rymarz, said: "This is a complex investigation and at this stage we are keeping an open mind to whether there is any connection between the two incidents.

"These offences are extremely worrying and have understandably caused concern in the local community. We have deployed a high-volume of officers, both in uniform and plain clothed, to the area as part of the investigation and to reassure residents.”

Surrey Police is advising people to avoid walking home alone after an evening out, walk with friends or take a taxi, if you have to walk, avoid short cuts in lonely areas, keep to well-lit, busy streets If you regularly go walking or jogging, vary your route, if you think you're being followed, walk to the busiest place you can find or knock on a door then call the police and consider carrying a personal attack alarm.

If you are attacked, shout for help as loudly as you can or shout for someone to contact the police. Use your personal attack alarm. Try to get to a safe place and call the police.

Superintendent Karen Mizzi, said: "These are extremely worrying incidents and we need to find those responsible as a matter of urgency.

"I would appeal to anyone who has information which may assist the investigation to get in contact with police immediately. If you prefer to remain anonymous please contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

"We have deployed a high number of officers, both uniform and plain clothed to this area, to investigate the incidents and also reassure residents we are taking both report extremely seriously and doing all we can to find those responsible.”

On both occasions the suspects are described as white men, aged in their late teens or early 20s, and wearing dark coloured hooded tops.
