YOU needed nerves of steel to visit the library this week.

Witches and devils were everywhere as children brought put their artistic skills to use at Cippenham Library, in Elmshott Lane, on Tuesday.

Faced with some tasty cupcakes and loads of tasty orange and black icing, they had fun creating sinister decorations, before taking the results home for tea.

The day before at Slough Library, in High Street, Explore Learning tutors brought a spooky touch to their sessions, as children explored some eerier examples of literature.

Meanwhile, creepy costumes came out to play to celebrate the end of term at Alexander First School, in Kenneally, Oakley Green, Windsor.

The annual event sees all of the school's pupils, aged between three and nine, wearing their spookiest fancy dress outfits to get in the Halloween spirit.

Lynn Bull, the special educational needs coordinator at the school, said: "There wasn't a child who didn't come in costume, there was such a range of outfits.

"I always say it but the costumes seem to look more fantastic every year."

As well as dancing, the children played games including musical statues and parents brought in cakes for them to eat at the event on Thursday last week.

Mrs Bull added: "It's a good chance for the children to come and have a dance with the teachers in more of a social setting.

"The children love to show off their costumes to their teachers."
