Swimmers needed to make a splash for cash
By Inderdeep Bains
Local schools, businesses, clubs and groups of friends are invited to make a splash for cash to donate to a charity of their choice.
The Windsor Lions Club is hosting its annual Swimathon to make as much money as possible for needy causes and the club’s funds.
The popular event will be held at Windsor Leisure Centre in Stovell Road on Sunday, October 5.
Swimmers will have to form a team of up to eight swimmers plus a non-swimming team captain. Junior teams may consist of up to eight swimmers plus a mandatory adult non-swimming captain.
Harry Purchase of Windsor Lions Club, said: “This is a big event and is a very easy way for people to raise money for a cause as we do all the paperwork. Last year we raised £12,000 and we are aiming to exceed that this year by raising more than £15,000.
“We’ve had a good response and entries are coming in slowing but we need more people to get involved.”
Prizes are awarded to the teams who raise the most money. The event starts at 8am and six teams will swim during each hour with each team swimming for 55 minutes, leaving 5 minutes for change overs.
